Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon)

Episode 1

"Remember, the storm is a good opportunity for the pine and the cypress to show their strength and their stability"
--Ho Chi Minh

Finally arrived in Ho Chi Minh City after a tiresome journey, we will probably stay here for 2 nights. Even the first bites of amazing Vietnamese cuisine couldn’t fully wash away the disenchantment from the endless mess and disorder on the streets. No man from Europe could drive in this traffic. Having a swim on the rooftop now and we will be discovering Saigon's nightlife later. Karaoke is very possible. 🎤😄

The second day in Saigon was full of contrast. City centre has a plenty of its fancy hotels, built by French a hundred years ago. Cleanliness level is surprising, heart of the city resembles a proper European city with a healthy bit of oriental vibe. Even the never-ending motorcycle horns kinda disappear there.

Uncle Ho waves us on the way back to our hotel and the real Saigon streets hit us again (though it’s just 2km). People cooking outside, eating savory dishes on tiny little chairs and just laying directly on the pavements, hopping for a penny. The difference is almost unreal.

We will be leaving Saigon tomorrow, Phu Quoc island is our next place to see. 🏝

Travellers tip: Don’t even try to agree on the price for a taxi at the airport, you’ll probably meet someone happy to rob you. Order a taxi via Grab.
